Current position and background
Sir David Warren served in the Diplomatic Service for 37 years and was British Ambassador to Japan from 2008 to 2012.
He was a member of the Council of the University of Kent from 2013 to 2021 (and Chair from 2014 to 2020) and has also undertaken a number of Japan-related roles, including as Chair of the Japan Society (2013 to 2019) and Member of the Management Board, Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures, University of East Anglia (2013 to present). He is also a director of the Migration Matters Trust, a cross-party, pro-legal migration campaign group (since 2013), and has held various Japan-related advisory and commercial positions.
He was made Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George in 2012 and received the honour of Grand Cordon, Order of the Rising Sun (Japan) in 2017.
