NMC seeks new Council and committee members

We are seeking a registered nurse, midwife or nursing associate to join our Council as a non-executive member from April 2025. We are also looking for three lay people to join our Council’s Committees.

Council member

As the governing body, the Council sets the NMC’s strategic direction. It’s made up of six lay members and six professionals on our register, appointed by the Privy Council, including at least one from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

We are looking for a professional on our register from across the UK with senior level experience in leading or managing culture change and/or organisational development.

We are particularly keen to hear from those who can also bring skills in areas such as leading on policy and practice in safeguarding and protecting people; or senior leadership in higher education; or senior leadership in community based nursing services or social care.

The successful applicant will join at a turning point for the NMC as we address the concerns identified in the recent independent review of our culture and make significant investments in fitness to practise to improve the timeliness and quality of our decision-making.

We welcome applications from all backgrounds and strongly encourage applicants from Black and minority ethnic communities. We want our Council to better reflect the professions we regulate, and the people they care for.

Applications for the Council member role can be submitted until noon on 17 October 2024.

Committees of Council

We are looking for one lay person with senior expertise in organisational development to join our People and Culture Committee.

We are also looking for two lay people with either appropriate financial expertise or expertise in technology and cyber security to join our Audit Committee.

The Council’s decisions are informed by its Committees, which explore issues in greater depth and report back on their findings.

The Audit Committee and the People and Culture Committee play a crucial role at the NMC by providing the scrutiny and challenge critical to delivering our strategic aims.

Applications to join our Audit Committee and People and Culture Committees can be submitted until 23:59 on 6 October 2024.
