Laura Smith
Registered nursing associate at Derbyshire Community Health Services
What does being a nursing associate mean to you?
‘It means I’m equipped with the skills and knowledge to provide excellent, safe care to patients and their families.’
What’s been your most rewarding moment as a registered nursing associate?
‘The rewarding moments come in many forms, I might be the only person a patient will see that day so spending a few extra minutes to have a conversation means a lot to them. It could also be when a patient is poorly, getting them the right help at the right time is so important. Every day is different and I wouldn’t change a thing.’
What advice do you have for someone training, or thinking of training, to be a nursing associate?
‘If you are currently training or thinking of training, my advice would be to embrace every opportunity - you never know where it will take you.’
