Your views and experiences can help shape our work

The voice of the public and people who use health and care services matters in everything we do.

As a professional regulator, we're here to promote and uphold high standards in nursing and midwifery - which the public has a right to expect.

We made a commitment in our strategy to engage and empower the public, and our ambitions in this area continue to grow.

We want to better understand your experiences and needs to help shape what we do as a regulator, and to help improve health and social care for everyone.

What we mean by public engagement

We work with members of the public and health and social care organisations such as charities and patient groups to shape what we do as a regulator. We believe this collaborative approach supports our vision of safe, effective and kind nursing and midwifery practice that improves everyone’s health and wellbeing.

As individuals who interact with nursing and midwifery professionals, we believe everyone has some expertise to offer. Together, we can produce better policies, resources and solutions to issues you care about.

Examples:

Advanced practice review – read about how we are working with members of the public and other stakeholders to shape this review.

For every pregnancy – this campaign aims to show that each pregnancy is unique, and whatever stage you're at, your midwife team should be right alongside you. The design and content was shaped by the Public Voice Forum, pregnant women and maternity focussed groups.

How can I get involved?

  • Sign up to our public newsletter to receive updates on our work and to take part in public consultations.
  • Join the Public Voice Forum – our key site for public involvement. Members join for up to three years and help shape work relating to the NMC’s priorities. Read more about the forum

Please note that we won’t always have vacancies on these groups.
