In March 2024 we asked all approved education institutions (AEIs) to assure us that programmes are being delivered in line with our standards in some key areas: use of simulated practice learning, reflective practice, and satellite sites. Our subsequent review of 1,128 pre-registration programmes showed that in most cases our standards in these areas were met but that there was some variance and an additional point in relation classification of ‘breaks’ within practice learning time was highlighted.
We’re proactively sharing the outcome of our review to explain the risk-assessed approach we have taken to working with AEIs to ensure our standards are being met in these areas and our next steps.
The review also explains learning that we have taken from this work, which will inform changes we make to strengthen our approach to EdQA.

Webinars
We regularly hold webinars to give people an opportunity to find out more about new approaches to quality assurance
On 1 September 2024 the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) became our new education quality assurance (EdQA) service partner. On 30 and 31 October 2024 we ran two events for approved education institutions (AEIs). We recapped the changes that have happened in the NMC EdQA landscape in 2024 and set out next steps. We also introduced QAA who explained their approach and what AEIs can expect from the approvals and modifications process, including some changes.
We ran the same session twice:
30 October 2024
31 October 2024
This webinar was designed to provide support and assistance to AEIs in preparation for the upcoming ASR period. This session was delivered on 31 October 2023.
