Commenting on the appointment of Charlotte McArdle to the role of Deputy Chief Nursing Officer for Patient Safety and Improvement for NHS England and NHS Improvement, Andrea Sutcliffe CBE, Chief Executive and Registrar for the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), said:

“I would like to congratulate Charlotte on her appointment to the role of Deputy Chief Nursing Officer for Patient Safety and Improvement for NHS England and NHS Improvement.  

“As Chief Nursing Officer for Northern Ireland since 2013, she has provided invaluable leadership, working with colleagues across health and social care to improve services for the public and support the professional development of nurses and midwives. Her leadership has been invaluable during the pandemic and the response to it.

“I am especially grateful for Charlotte’s work with the NMC. Her commitment and collaboration on Future Nurse and Future Midwife standards development, together with her leadership and determination for their roll out and implementation in Northern Ireland, will shape the future of nursing and midwifery for many years to come.

“We look forward to continuing our relationship with Charlotte in her new post.”
