NMC to appoint Executive Director of People and Culture and two new Heads of EDI
Published on 10 March 2025
We have launched recruitment campaigns for senior colleagues who will play crucial roles in transforming our organisation’s culture: an Executive Director of People and Culture and two Heads of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).
Executive Director of People and Culture
We are looking for an Executive Director of People and Culture – a strategic leadership role to help us transform our culture and deliver a fit-for-purpose organisation.
The successful candidate will help embed a coaching culture at the organisation and oversee a coaching programme to equip all our managers to be great leaders – enabling them to make values-based decisions, embed EDI, create psychological safety and ensure staff enjoy their work.
As well as leading our HR function, our new Executive Director of People and Culture will lead the NMC’s culture change team and work closely with our Interim Chief Executive and Registrar Paul Rees MBE, to deliver our culture transformation plan – which will be published later this month.
Applications will be open until 20 March 2025. We’ve appointed Saxton Bampfylde to attract a diverse and talented field of candidates and run a robust, inclusive selection process.

Heads of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
We’re also recruiting for two new Head of EDI roles. One has an internal focus on our NMC workforce, and the other centres on our regulatory role to ensure our processes are as fair, safe and equitable as possible while protecting the public.
Embedding EDI best practices is a pillar of culture transformation. It is essential to improving the experiences of NMC colleagues and everyone impacted by our regulatory work and processes. Bolstering our EDI team will provide joined-up leadership as we work to publish a new EDI plan, which will dovetail with the wider culture change plan and a new people plan.
Applications for this role are open until 23 March 2025.

Paul Rees MBE, NMC Interim Chief Executive and Registrar, said:
“One of my priorities since I joined the NMC has been to formulate and roll out a culture transformation plan. The plan is due to be published later this month and the new Executive Director of People and Culture will play a crucial leadership role in delivering this exciting programme of change.
“We’re also looking for new Heads of EDI to embed equality, diversity and inclusion across our workplace and within our core regulatory work. This will support the transformation of our culture, strengthen our leadership and improve our regulatory outcomes.
“As well as renewing our focus on equality, diversity and inclusion, the culture plan will promote effective leadership, values-based decision-making, psychological safety and enjoyment at work. That is why our new colleagues will need to be values-driven and culturally competent experts who can provide visible, inclusive and inspirational leadership at the NMC.”
