Notice of interim order hearing for nurse charged with murder

02 April 2014

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has today confirmed that an interim order hearing for nurse Victorino Chua will be taking place on Thursday 3 April 2014 at  20 Old Bailey, London, EC4M 7LN. Members of the media are welcome to attend. The hearing will start at 09:00.

NMC Interim Order** hearings allow the NMC to restrict or suspend the practise of registered nurses and midwives while an investigation into allegations made against them takes place. Interim Orders are only imposed in the most serious cases where there is deemed to be an immediate risk to the public if the nurse or midwife were to continue practising unrestricted.

Mr Chua was formally charged by Greater Manchester Police on Saturday 29 March 2014 with three counts of murder, numerous charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and offences of poisoning under Section 24 of the Offences Against the Person Act.

We have clear and transparent processes to investigate and deal with nurses and midwives who fall short of our standards.
