If you have completed an NMC-approved pre-registration nurse, midwife or nursing associate programme, we will accept this as evidence that you have the necessary knowledge of English.

Using a pre-registration qualification that is not NMC-approved
You need to provide evidence that during your programme:
- you spent at least half of your time interacting with patients, service users, their families and other healthcare professionals,
- and that at least 75% of these interactions were in English.
This evidence must be recent, objective and easy for us to verify.
Using a pre-registration qualification from a country where English is a majority spoken language

All you need to provide is a transcript, as set out below.
Using a pre-registration qualification from a country where English is not a majority spoken language
You may be able to provide supporting information from your UK employer (SIFE) as supplementary evidence of your English language competence, subject to meeting our requirements. This is in addition to a transcript, as set out below.

If you are unable to meet our requirements, you will need to provide an alternative type of evidence such as a language test.
What must my transcript include?
A transcript is an official copy of your academic record. It shows all the modules you completed as part of your qualification.
It must show that:
- you spent at least half of your time interacting with patients, service users, their families and other healthcare professionals,
- and that at least 75% of these interactions were in English.
You should provide the transcript for the qualification that enabled you to register as a nursing or midwifery professional in your country of training. This should be a personal transcript with your name on it, rather than a generic course syllabus. It should clearly show the breakdown of clinical practice and theory hours of your qualification.
I don’t have my transcript
If you didn’t receive a transcript when you graduated, you should contact your training institution to request a copy.
If your training institution has closed down, we recommend that you contact the regulator in your country of training to see if they are able to provide a copy for you.
We do not currently accept NARIC/ECCTIS certificates as English language evidence.
