If you have recently practised for at least one year in a country where English is a majority spoken language, you may be able to use this as English language evidence.
See our accepted list of countries where English is a majority spoken language
To use this evidence type, your period of registered practice must have been within the last two years at the point that we consider your completed application.
Registering as a nurse or midwife
You must have:
- Been registered with the regulator in the country where you practised, and
- Completed an English language assessment or examination as part of that registration.
We’ll ask you to give details of your registration, upload a copy of your registration certificate and tell us how your language proficiency was assessed to enable registration with your regulator.
You’ll need to show that you have been practising recently (within the last two years) to meet our requirements, so you should provide us with your most recent registration certificate.
We’ll ask you to provide details of your employer(s) in the country you were or are currently practising in, so we can confirm your employment with them and ensure you have practised for at least one year. We’ll also ask them to confirm whether you have the necessary knowledge of English to practise safely and effectively.
If you’re applying for nursing or midwifery registration, we won’t be able to consider any periods of employment in unregistered roles.
Registering as a nursing associate
If you are registering as a nursing associate and your previous practice was not regulated, you must have:
- Been employed in a role similar to that of a nursing associate, which allowed you to practise the skills, knowledge and experience you gained from the qualification you are registering with, and
- Completed an English language assessment as part of your employment.
We’ll ask your employer(s) to confirm that your role corresponded to that of a nursing associate, you have been in the role for at least one year, and that you successfully completed an English language assessment as part of your employment. We’ll also ask them to confirm whether you have the necessary knowledge of English to practise safely and effectively.
