As we don’t regulate student nurses, midwives and nursing associates, AEIs should assess the character and health of students and prospective students according to their own policies and processes and equality legislation.
On completion of the course, AEIs are required to sign a declaration of health and character for their students, in line with the pre-registration nursing and midwifery and nursing associate standards.
Our guidance on health and character outlines the general principles applied and the factors considered by the Registrar when assessing whether an applicant’s health and character is such that they are capable of safe and effective practice.
AEIs may refer to this guidance to assist them in making their own health and character assessments of students and prospective students.
