Standards for specialist community public health nurses
We first published the Standards of proficiency for specialist community public health nurses (SCPHNs) in 2004. These were standards that set out both the proficiencies (the skills and knowledge a SCPHN needs), and the standards for education and training (how a university will train and educate SCPHN students).
To make the proficiencies clearer and more accessible for everyone, we also published these as a stand-alone document, Standards of proficiency: SCPHNs.
The 2004 standards were withdrawn on 31 August 2024. This means we no longer approve qualifications achieved against the 2004 SCPHN standards, nor do they lead to an entry on the SCPHN register.
People who already hold a SCPHN qualification against these standards will remain on the SCPHN register.
